Another Cutler post...

Well it looks like I'm eating crow about the Cutler situation. Apparently my lack of faith in the Bears was unfounded (actually it wasn't, this is retardedly out of character for the Bears front office). The Bears have a legit quarterback for the first time since Eric Kramer decided to pop off for a season before returning to mediocrity. I'm in shock at this move.

It was completely worth it...on PTI they reported it Cutler and a future conditional third round pick for Orton and the 2009 & 2010 first round picks. I make that deal every day and twice on Sunday. You might think that 2 first rounders is a steep price, but it's not. Here's a link to the Bears history with first round picks. Take a look at 1995-2003 (minus Urlacher)...those picks would have been wasted anyways.

In Cutler we have a QB who threw for 4500 yards and 25 TDs without any major WR weapons (sounds familiar) and no running game. In Chicago he is slightly worse off in the WR department, an issue that will need to be addressed, but he has a solid running game and two good pass catching tight ends to rely on. I'm not predicting another 4500 yard season, but he will undoubtedly do better than Orton or whoever else we were going to trot onto the field....as long as we stop running those 5 yard outs on 3rd and 7.

This is a good day to be a Bears fan. Haven't been able to say that in a couple years.

***EDIT***

ESPN .com is reporting this was the deal agreed too:

To acquire Cutler, the Bears had to give up quarterback Kyle Orton and first-round picks in 2009 and 2010, along with a third-round pick in 2009.

To complete the trade, the Broncos had to give back a fifth-round pick in 2009. That pick was acquired by the Broncos from the Seattle Seahawks in a trade for wide receiver Keary Colbert
